Multiple tech miracles combine in Sony’s amazing digital recording binoculars, even though they fall rather into the basket of a solution looking for a problem. When you look through the eyepieces you see two tiny screens instead of optical tubes, and (like real binoculars) these need to be aligned and focused for each user, so when you hand them around to share (because everyone will want a go), there can be a fair bit of realigning required.

You can choose between 2D and 3D display, and when positioned correctly the 3D depth on offer is not spectacular, but certainly visible.

Thank you for looking up our Sony Dev5 Digital Recording Binoculars Review printed in issue #3 2012 of Geare magazine.

This equipment review is available as a low-resolution pdf version of the original magazine pages. It looks nicer that way.
