They must be putting something in the water at Sony’s camera design bureau because right now the company is really on a roll. Suddenly the D-SLR range looks hugely competitive – courtesy of the SLT-A35, A65 and the brilliant A77 – and over in the compact system camera (CSC) camp things appear equally rosy, spearheaded by the NEX-7.

We’d have expected this camera to come from either Canon or Nikon, but instead Sony is first with a real enthusiast-level compact system camera. Better still both the eyelevel viewfinder and the flash are built-in.
