Q Acoustics’ new Q B12 subwoofer is the company’s first to feature a 12-inch driver, with the sub designed to integrate with the whole range of Q Acoustics speakers, with distributor Indi Imports noting particular compatibility with Q Acoustics’ 3000i suite.

The $1299 subwoofer is available in black or white, with its reinforced MDF cabinet 400 x 400 x 446mm in size, a sealed ‘infinite baffle’ design with internal ‘dart bracing’ for additional cabinet rigidity and lower cabinet resonance.

Q Acoustics says that the ‘dart brace’ provides high axial stiffness directly to the motor system, effectively a mechanical ground to the drive unit, while the load is spread to all faces of the cabinet, reducing the ‘ballooning’ effect of the cabinet, critical for subwoofers that inherently contain high internal acoustic pressure.

And there may be plenty of that, given the Q B12’s powerful ultra-low distortion 200W Class D power amplifier, capable of delivering 17A peak current, driving a long-throw high stiffness 12-inch paper cone backed by a large 50mm voice coil.

A custom die-cast aluminium heat sink on the rear panel supports and cools the power amplifier and power supply, while a recessed and hidden rear terminal panel hides all plugs and channels cables neatly out through the base of the subwoofer. There’s a choice of adjustable spiked feet for carpets or reinforced rubber caps for wooden floors.
