Two new AV receivers from Yamaha feature AirPlay, HTC Connect, Spotify and Pandora plus ‘Extra Bass’ and Virtual Cinema Front circuitry.

One of these new models, the 5.1-channel RX-V477 Network AV Receiver also has discrete amplifier configuration and 192/24 Burr-Brown DACs for all channels, together with 4K Ultra HD pass-through. The other, Yamaha’s 7.2-channel RX-V577 Network AV Receiver has all these plus built-in Wi-Fi, but even without it, wireless connection to a phone or tablet can be achieved via the new ‘Wi-Fi Direct’ feature that enables features such as app control, AirPlay and DLNA music streaming. Both new AV receivers provide 6 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output, a multi-language on-screen display and YPAO auto calibration. High-resolution audio including FLAC and WAV 192/24t and Apple Lossless 96/24 playback is supported as well as Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD Master Audio decoding.

‘Extra Bass’ is a circuit that enhances the bass deliver from small speakers, while Virtual Cinema Front is a circuit that Yamaha says will deliver a surround sound experience using only front speakers. ‘Virtual Cinema Front is an exciting new technology that we have incorporated into all models of the ’77 Series’, said Justin d’Offay, of Yamaha Music Australia. ‘It’s the perfect solution for open plan living spaces or in instances where having speakers positioned around the room is not a viable option, Virtual Cinema Front brings the thrill of surround sound to an entirely new audience.

To aid with ease of use Yamaha has developed a free-to-download AV Controller app that enables intuitive control from iOS and Android phones and tablets. The latest version of the app enables you to fine-tune Yamaha’s acclaimed DSP sound programs by adjusting a range of parameters to suit the user’s preference or to complement the type of music/movie.
