Czech manufacturer Xavian has released a new version of the Perla, which it says has become its best-selling design following its release in 2015. The new model is the Perla Esclusiva.
The Xavian Perla Esclusiva is a two-driver, two-way bass reflex design using a 150mm ‘AudioBarletta’ bass/midrange driver (said to be custom-made in Italy to designer Robert Barletta’s specifications) which uses a polypropylene cone with a soft dustcap and a diecast chassis and a 26mm soft dome tweeter, also said to be unique to Xavian, having been built in Italy to Barletta’s specification. The bass reflex port is slot-shaped and located on the front baffle.
'It may not appear on first sight that this is a new model,’ says Barletta, ‘because the important changes are inside, such as the crossover being newly equipped with top-class Mundorf capacitors, which has allowed us to tune the speaker even a bit lower to achieve even fuller sound… sound that I think is absolutely incredible for a speaker of this size and price.’
Another not-so-obvious change is that the Perla Esclusiva’s cabinet is now made of solid oak, sourced from Italian forests. ‘Oak is even more sturdy than the material we used for the Perla and lasts longer,’ says Barletta, ‘it’s also heavier, so the cabinets have gained more than 10 per cent in weight.’ The Perla Esclusiva’s name comes from a decorative artificial pearl that’s fitted to the rear panel. The cabinets are available in dark oak or natural oak finishes, as well as in black or white painted finishes, plus for extra cost, you can optionally order a ‘marina’ finish.
