Hot from the Munich High End show, where it premiered, Magico’s Ultimate III is now available for pre-order in Australia through Absolute Hi End.

Magico’s Ultimate 3 is five-way system standing nearly 2.3 metres tall that has four horns, each with a 381mm (15-inch) driver powered by an amplifier rated at 4,000-watts. All five drivers are custom-made in Japan for Magico. The horns are made entirely in the USA, some from cast aluminium, while others are machined from solid blocks of aircraft-grade aluminium. Each speaker weighs 365kg. ‘Magico debuted the Ultimate III at CES in Las Vegas earlier this year, but only as a static display, so the Munich High End Show 2014 was my first chance to audition them,’ said Boris Granovsky, of Absolute Hi End, ‘Although paired with cheaper electronics, the sound was like listening to a live performance instead of hi-fi, and possibly the best I have heard from any loudspeaker.’ Magico Ultimate 3 speakers are built to order only and currently sell for $725,000. Magico rates the frequency range as 22Hz to 33kHz, the sensitivity at 115dBSPL at one metre (for 2.83V input) and the nominal impedance at 16Ω.
