Magico has released its M6, a three-way, five-driver floor-standing loudspeaker it says establishes a new pinnacle of engineering and design vision at Magico.

The Magico M6’s cabinet is a monocoque enclosure made from 12.5mm carbon-fibre, a construction technique that Alon Wolf of Magico says increases the structural strength-to-weight ratio by a factor of 60, while reducing overall weight by 50 per cent and yielding outer dimensions that are 30 per cent smaller without compromising internal volume. Also, the curved interior and exterior walls minimise internal standing waves and external diffraction. The front baffle is made from aluminium and braced by ten aluminium tension rods.

The tweeter in the M6 has a 28mm diamond-coated beryllium diaphragm and is claimed to be more efficient than the tweeter used in Magico’s M-Project model. The 153mm midrange driver has a graphene-based cone material, an underhung neodymium-based motor system, a titanium voice coil, and operates from sub-enclosure made of proprietary carbon fibre composite that provides an ideally damped environment to disperse internal standing waves. ‘This is a brand-new driver for Magico, whose design leverages an extra-large magnet and a top-stabilising magnet to ensure a perfectly stabilised magnetic field of 1.7 Tesla in a 15mm air gap,’ said Boris Granovsky, of Absolute Hi End, which distributes Magico in Australia. ‘The latest 3D laser scanning techniques were used to allow for unparalleled precision in assembly, ensuring optimal behaviour, minimal distortion and a reduction in non-pistonic motion.’

Each of the three 267mm bass drivers in the Magico M6 has a multi-wall carbon/nanographene cone that’s driven by a 127mm voice-coil for which Magico claims 25mm of linear excursion. The titanium coil is driven by a radical neodymium SD magnet assembly. ‘The secret to the high performance of these drivers is that the iron around the coil is totally saturated, so there’s no induced flux and therefore no eddy currents,’ Granovsky told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine. ‘Magico achieves near 90 per cent saturation when the industry standard is less than 20 per cent, so the inductance of the woofer is only 0.085mH. At 50Hz it can produce 120dBSPL at one metre.’
