Klipsch is packaging its R-15PM powered monitors, which have a built-in phono pre-amp, with its Klipsch×Pro-Ject Primary turntable. It calls this package its ‘Music Crate’ system.

No pre-amp is required, no receiver needed, and there’s no need to mess with counterweights or anti-skating adjustments, just find a wall outlet, set-up the turntable and speakers, plug them in, flip the switch and you’re ready to rock,’ said Shelden Walker, Audio Sales and Product Manager at Powermove Distribution, who is responsible for distributing Klipsch in Australia. ‘This system will easily deliver crisp, detailed, room-filling sound without the hassle of setting up mounds of equipment,’ he said.

The Klipsch R-15PM powered monitors are two-way bass-reflex loudspeakers with a 133mm bass/midrange driver crossing to a 25mm aluminium diaphragm compression driver fronted by a 90°× 90° ‘Tractrix’ horn. The bass/midrange driver cone is made from graphite reinforced polypropylene using a proprietary formulation Klipsch calls IMG. In addition to a phono input, the R-15PM speakers also have digital optical, analog RCA and USB inputs, plus they can be accessed wirelessly via Bluetooth. Should additional bass be required, an optional external subwoofer can be connected to a dedicated line-level subwoofer output. Klipsch rates the frequency response of the R-15PM speakers as being 62Hz–24kHz ±3dB.

The turntable provided with the system is manufactured for Klipsch in Lintoval, in the Czech Republic, by turntable specialist Pro-Ject, and is a belt-drive model whose platter is driven by a synchronous a.c. motor. It has a 219mm (8.6-inch) aluminium tone-arm that comes pre-fitted with an audiophile-grade Ortofon OM5e moving-magnet cartridge.
