Audio Physic released its long-awaited Classic 35 at HIGH END 2019 (pictured above in situ in Room F125, Atrium 4.1… but no sign of the equally long-awaited Classic 32…
The Audio Physic Classic 35 is the successor to the legendary Classic 30, and is a three-way, four-driver floor-standing design with dual bass drivers, a single midrange driver and a dome tweeter. The midrange driver uses Audio Physic’s newly developed HHCM-III (Hyper Holographic Cone Midrange—3rd Generation) ‘dual basket’ design that was first used on its flagship Structure. This driver is built using state-of-the-art 3D-printing technology to create a complex open structure that optimises rigidity, vibration control and internal airflow. The cone is made of ceramic-coated aluminium, while the surround is a tensioned silicone/rubber ring that pre-loads the diaphragm in such a way that it eliminates the audible ringing effects that conventional metal diaphragms often produce at their resonant frequencies, thus avoiding the ‘metallic’ sound quality that is sometimes associated with metal-coned drivers… even those damped with a ceramic or other material.
As with all Audio Physic speakers, the cabinet of the Classic 35 is a unique ‘sandwich’ design using the weight of the glass panels to further help damp the cabinet. Internally, the company uses its unique ceramic foam (CF) bracing, a high-tech material that is much stiffer than the MDF used by most manufacturers, yet is 85 per cent air. ‘By using Ceramic Foam, we can build loudspeakers that outperform much bulkier speakers,’ said Wolfgang Lücke, of Audio Physic. The glass covering the Classic 35 is available in black, white, silver-grey, anthracite, red and pearl.
