Italian high-end manufacturer Gold Note has released a new phono stage, the PH-10, which offers six different equalisation settings, plus four gain and nine impedance settings.

The PH-10 not only features RIAA equalisation, it also offers Decca-London and American-CBS-Columbia EQ curves, as well as ‘enhanced’ versions of all three. It also offers four different gain settings (–3dB, 0dB, +3dB, +6dB) and nine impedance settings (10Ω, 22Ω, 47Ω, 100Ω, 220Ω, 470Ω, 1kΩ, 22kΩ, 47kΩ). The PH-10 has two inputs, and all of these options can be set for each input. It also has an internal high-pass filter. ‘This specially-designed filter removes low-frequency rumble from the signal from your phono cartridge to preventing the intermodulation distortion that would otherwise result in your speakers’ bass drivers producing inaccurate sound,’ said Boris Granovsky, of Absolute Hi-End, which distributes Gold Note in Australia.

According to Maurizio Aterini, of Gold Note, the chassis of the PH-10 is machined from a solid block of aluminium, and everything you need to know about it is shown on the large TFT front-panel display. ‘On PH-10 everything is right where it should be: on the front panel we find a large TFT monitor showing all the setup information with a clear layout that's easy to read at a glance, and it features Single Knob Control [SKC], which is an elegant solution to browse, select and change settings instantly that will let you enjoy the best out of your system through simple, intuitive gestures,’ he told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine. Available now in Black, Silver, Gold, Red anodizing, the Gold Note PH-10 retails for $2,290.
