Mere days away from kicking off their biggest Australian headline tour yet, Tassie legends Luca Brasi have dropped a tasty new single. Coming in hot with a vibe-heavy music video, "Got To Give" is our first chunk of shred from the four-piece since the April '16 release of their breakthrough third album, If This Is All We're Going To Be.
It's also their first release since the band's departure from Poison City Records, which has stamped their mark on every Luca Brasi offering since their 2011 debut, Extended Family. It's unclear whether the single comes as a one-off nugget or our first taste of the band's next full-length (which will now bear the Cooking Vinyl stamp), but either way, if this is what the future of Luca Brasi sounds like, we're already pining for more.
"The last year has surpassed any hopes and dreams we could have had, [and] I can't even express how stoked we are to get to do this type of stuff," says frontman Tyler Richardson. "People often tell me how thankful they are for the band, and how stoked they are. All I can ever reply is that from our end, it's just disbelief and we're more thankful for them than they could imagine. 'Got To Give' is about that exact feeling, and needing that kind of support wherever you can get it. Being able to rely on the ones you need and love when things change is something I'm eternally grateful for.”
The new cut was pieced together with frequent collaborator Jimmy Balderston of Adelaide rock outfit Grenadiers, and mixed by Jason Livermore at the iconic Blasting Room (of Rise Against and Descendents fame).
Richardson continues, "Being able to share something new is always bloody exciting, and nerve-racking. Working with Jimmy is always a good time, he's a total legend and always brings out the best in us. Having Jason at the Blasting Room then weave his own magic on the song is awesome. He and that studio have done some of our favourite work, so it was an easy decision to have him on board".
Luca Brasi are set to kick off a massive eight-date headline tour in Adelaide this Thursday, before rolling through Melbourne, Perth, Melbourne (again), Hobart (twice), Brisbane and Sydney. Support comes from US post-hardcore crew Pianos Become The Teeth, alongside local legends Maddy Jane and Speech Patterns.
