A few weeks ago, Australian Guitar attended Fender Music Australia's Fender Custom Shop event and dealer meeting, and there was a lot of great stuff on show (some of which we can't talk about yet). One instrument that was spoken about but wasn't on hand - probably because if it was there then nobody would get any work done - was the new Gretsch Malcolm Young Signature Jet, which pays tribute to Malcolm's iconic 'The Beast.'
Officially named the Gretsch G6131-MY Malcolm Young Signature Jet, this Beast replica is a regular catalog model, not a limited-edition Custom Shop instrument like the one released last year. And while its appointments replicate the mods that Malcolm had made to his guitars over the years, this one isn't aged and dinged up to copy Malcolm's axe: that's your job.
This model features the essential hallmarks of one of rock’s most iconic instruments including “DIY” pickup routes with simulated screw holes, chrome switch plugs, 'Space-Control' bridge with ebony base and ‘60s-style tailpiece. Open-cavity thunder roars from the thin-skin satin finished chambered mahogany body and is magnified by a high-output TV Jones Power’Tron pickup.
The Beast will be available from November 2018 at an Australian RRP of $3999.
