We spent the long weekend having a wonderful time at Wollongong's own Yours & Owls festival. It's rapidly grown into one of Australia's best annual events, pulling heavy hitters from our own backyard like Courtney Barnett, Frenzal Rhomb, West Thebarton, Amy Shark, Angie McMahon, WAAX and Skeggs.
A few bands even came from across the seas for the occasion. England's Love, Fame, Tragedy made their Aussie debut, Canada's own hardcore heroes Fucked Up closed out the weekend in fittingly chaotic fashion and Bass Drum of Death flew all the way from the USA to get everyone grooving to their glorious garage punk tunes.
And the weekend wasn't just about the riffs, as always. Vera Blue made a triumphant return to Yours & Owls by headbanging her way onto the stage, in a lime green dress and sparkly platform Docs. Sneaky Sound System took one of the biggest crowds of the weekend down memory lane and Baker Boy brought some of the best dance moves Wollongong has seen, between effortlessly enunciated beats.
