Sennheiser has announced the 'Momentum Free' at IFA 2017 in Berlin, to be available in Australia from November.
The new Free model is an all-new wireless "ear-canal headphone" using Bluetooth 4.2 with apt-X and AAC codec support, and also Qualcomm's apt-X Low Latency compatibility, which aims to enable gaming or video content with fewer sync or latency issues.
It's a nicely luxurious design, with stainless steel earpieces using 'mirror chrome' detailing, and a leather carry case to match (below), though this doesn't appear to be one of the new genre of charging cases which might help extend the Free's six-hour battery life.
The earpieces have magnets that link the two together (as pictured above) to hang neatly around the neck when not in use but not yet ready for casing up.
Sennheiser quotes a "high-quality dynamic speaker system and custom-machined stainless steel in-ear sound tunnels" for sound quality worthy of the Momentum name, while a three-button remote and high quality in-line microphone are integrated into the cable between the earpieces. Multi-connection with up to two devices at once and 3-way calling support are also provided. An intuitive system of voice prompts provides notifications on the pairing status and battery life.
“Inspired by those who always aim higher, our iconic MOMENTUM headphone family continues to set new standards through their fusion of superior sound quality and premium aesthetics,” said Sebastian Rodens, Product Manager Audiophile at Sennheiser. “The MOMENTUM Free distils this ethos into an exquisitely compact form – offering even greater portability and freedom, without compromising on audio performance.”
