Now part of Western Digital (WD), SanDisk has released details of the first 1.0 TB (terabytes) capacity SDXC memory card. The new card will be part of SanDisk’s Extreme Pro series and is designed to meet the demands of both 4K and 8K video, as well as ultra-high resolution stills capture.
Dinesh Bahal – who is vice president of product management in WD’s Content Solutions Business Unit – commented, “Sixteen years ago we introduced the first SanDisk 64 MB SD card and today we are enabling capacities of 1.0 TB. The SanDisk 1.0 TB SD card prototype represents another significant achievement as growth of high-resolution content and capacity-intensive applications such as virtual reality, video surveillance and 360 video, are progressing at astounding rates”.
The product is still only at prototype stage so a launch date has yet to be set, but the last time SanDisk showed a prototype memory card at Photokina – the 512 GB SDXC card in 2014 – it didn’t take all that long for it to become available.
