Epson is claiming that its new 17-inch Epson SureColor P5070 not only delivers the latest imaging technologies, but reduces the longer-term costs of ownership for professional photographers and those in the fine arts and graphic design industries.
“The SureColor P5070 is the latest addition to the Epson SureColor product line, which is bringing Epson’s photographic technology to the next level,” says Craig Heckenberg, General Manager of EPson Australia’s Business Division. “Sitting above the popular Epson SureColor SC-P800 in the range, the SureColor P5070 packs all of the SureColor printing technology into a 17-inch desktop model, providing photographers and graphic designers with the best imaging technology has to offer.”
The P5070 uses Epson’s PrecisionCore TFP printhead and UltraChrome HDX 10-colour pigment ink set to deliver an increased colour gamut, higher-density blacks and, claims the company, superior running costs. The 200ml UltraChrome HDX 10-colour ink cartridges use newly developed core pigments and promise “even better value than those of the previous model”. The new Black inks are 1.5 times denser than those used in the previous generation and are able to deliver a wider contrast ratio with improved resin encapsulation technology. The result is “superior gloss uniformity and optically clearer, sharper images”, says Epson.
The 10-channel PrecisionCore TFP printhead includes a new ink-repellant surface coating, along with improved dust and static control for reduced nozzle clogging and maintenance, and it supports printless nozzle checks for time, production and resource efficiency.
The P5070 can support two different ink configurations, one that uses Light Light Black and another that uses Violet ink. The Light Light Black configuration delivers smooth and neutral tonal transitions and support of the Epson Advanced Black and White print mode, which the company says is ideal for photography, fine art and graphic design applications and delivers 98% PANTONE coverage.
Configured with Violet ink in place of Light Light Black the Epson SureColor P5070 achieves an expanded colour gamut to deliver an industry-best 99% PANTONE coverage, which Epson indicates to be ideal for commercial, graphic and proofing applications.
Improved dust and static control also allow reduced maintenance and increased durability and reliability, while reduced ink pricing delivers lower running costs.
Media handling includes auto-switching between the 100-sheet capacity A2+-capable front paper cassette and the power-driven roll media spindle, able to roll-print up to 100 feet, with an internal high-speed single pass rotary cutter. A front-feed straight path can handle delicate fine art sheet media, including poster board, up to 1.5mm thick.
The SureColor P5070 is available now from authorised Epson dealers in a variety of bundles, which include an optional SpectroProofer, while an onsite CoverPlus service is available for up to five years for business reliability. The 5-year onsite CoverPlus service pack option retails for $3,895 (incl. GST). The printer alone is also available through the Epson Australia website from $2,995.
