Metaxas & Sins (no, not a typo, that’s the name of the company) is about to release a bespoke loudspeaker: ‘Sirens.’
The Metaxas Siren is a three way bass reflex design, using Accuton drivers. Buyers can choose the specific Accuton models to be used, with a choice of several different ceramic drivers, and the option of including Accuton’s diamond tweeter. The drivers are mounted into a sculptural form that is CNC-machined from your choice of aluminium or titanium that can be anodised or optionally be coated in automotive metallic paint, gold-leaf, or even clad in leather.
‘Despite the unique and unusual shape, the design is a seriously engineered, no-compromise loudspeaker with emphasis on absolute sound quality,’ said Kostas Metaxas, who was originally from Melbourne, Australia, but is now based in the Netherlands. ‘With more than a passing reference to Homer's Odyssey, the apt metaphor is testimony to the sheer musicality and realism that allows this potent three-way system to engage and captivate its audience with its sound and to invigorate the mind with its extreme sculptural aesthetic.’
Metaxas told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine that the Accuton ultra-low colouration drivers are embedded into spheres in such a way that all the drivers are time-aligned, while at the same time minimising front baffle diffraction. Price varies depending on which drivers and finish options you specify, but it's pretty easy for the price to climb to over $300,000 per pair.
