KEF has released a special edition of its LS50 Active Wireless speakers that glows in the dark
The ‘glow in the dark’ design was created for the LS50 wireless by renowned design studio Marcel Wanders. ‘The inherently circular nature of KEF’s Uni-Q driver and musical notation symbols subtly blend with unique architectural and rhythmic elements to create a sophisticated design, selected elements of which actually glow in the dark,’ said Michael Di Meglio, of Advance Audio, which distributes KEF in Australia. ‘This new LS50 Wireless ‘Nocturne’ lends a vibrant luminous visual quality and magical atmosphere to its surroundings while its sensuous aesthetic quality sets it apart from any other music system; making a lasting and memorable experience.’
Gabriele Chiave, creative director at Marcel Wanders, told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine: ‘We wanted to honour the nocturnal concept. The eloquent depth to the light and dark shades, textures and patterns allude to what you would experience in a dream-like state.’
As with the standard LS50 Wireless model, the Nocturne includes a comprehensive set of high quality wireless connectivity options: 2.4GHz/5GHz Dual-band Wi-Fi Network connectivity and Bluetooth 4.0 aptX plus a 192kHz/24-bit digital signal path, a dedicated DAC per channel, a streaming pre-amplifier, time-correcting DSP electronic crossover and dual amplifiers (200-watts for the bass/midrange section of the Uni-Q driver and 30-watts for the tweeter section). KEF’s Uni-Q driver technology places the tweeter in the exact acoustic centre of the bass/midrange cone, so that both act as a single point source that disperses the sound more evenly throughout the room.
A dedicated LS50 app, available for both iOS and Android, can be used to enable music streaming and playback and has customisable equalisation settings. The LS50 Wireless’s FEA-designed cabinet, Uni-Q driver, constrained layer damping bracing, precision-made curved baffle and the elliptical flexible sound port, are all retained on the LS50 Wireless Nocturne. ‘Having significantly increased usability for consumers by dispensing with the need for external amplification—while keeping sound quality at exemplary levels—and now having developed a product with an artistic aesthetic, KEF has truly delivered an audio product for our times,’ Di Meglio told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine. ‘One that will change expectations of what can be achieved in terms of blending wireless streaming, compact and beautiful design, and high-level audio performance. With the LS50 Wireless ‘Nocturne’ by Marcel Wanders, a visionary new aesthetic design—musical, rhythmic and sculptural in nature—has been added to create a magically compelling audio system like no other in the world.’
When it becomes available in Australia later this month, the LS50 Wireless Nocturne will sell for around $4,499 (RRP).
