Harman International used CES 2018 to launch the JBL Link View, the world’s first voice-controlled, smart display speaker with Google Assistant and a camera built in.
The JBL Link View is not only a wireless, networkable powered loudspeaker system, it also has a 200mm high-definition touch-screen display and a 5-megapixel front-facing camera so users can not only use it to listen to stream audio but also to view pictures and video, ask questions, scan recipes, and video call with family and friends, with all functions controlled by voice commands.
‘When we launched the Link series last year it represented a major milestone for us, as the first voice-activated, multi-room speakers to use Google Assistant and deliver Grammy award-winning JBL sound,’ said Lou Schreurs, VP, Connected Home & Luxury Audio BU, General Management at Harman International, which owns JBL. (Harman International is itself a wholly-owned subsidiary of Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd.) ‘Research shows voice activated speakers are no mere novelty. Sixty percent of owners now consider them a necessity. By continuing to enhance their experience by adding HD display with a touch screen and a front-facing camera, people will find even more ways to make these speakers an important part of their lives, routines and enjoyment.’
The high-resolution touch screen and camera are framed by two front-firing speakers and a rear-facing passive radiator, and the enclosure is made with premium materials that easily wipe clean, and designed to have a small footprint to take up minimal counter space, Multiple JBL Link models can be linked together to create a multi-room listening experience.
The JBL view will go on sale in the USA in July on JBL.com and at select retailers, and will become available in Australia later in the year, via Australian JBL distributor Convoy International.
