It’s been less than a year since Queens of the Stone Age brought their dancin’ shoes to our side of the pond, and now they’re coming back for another round. After blowing minds at Splendour in the Grass 2017, and a handful of sideshows, QOTSA will return in August for a full-scale national tour, with a bunch of new songs to show off.
Their latest record, Villains, was still a few weeks away from being released when QOTSA last hit our shores, which of course meant that only a couple of songs could be showcased on stage. So expect to hear many more new songs alongside classic cuts and even a few deep numbers if we’re lucky (as Homme has developed a penchant for dropping some surprises into the set).
The guys are hitting most of the same venues as last time, which means it’s time to get those ticket fingers ready. Why? Because their last run of shows sold faster than the closing riff in “Song For The Dead.” And rightly so, after all, our own Matt Doria summarised the last Sydney show as having “more than enough string-splitting energy, slick charisma and potential in their new stuff, to f*** all notions of the fivesome holding a 'legacy act' status right off into the stratosphere.”
Prepare for swagger, prepare for showmanship, prepare to fall in love while Homme holds you in his sultry snare as he shreds on the six-string and sways about the piano. Even after twenty years and seven albums, you can god damn guarantee that these QOTSA shows will leave you weak at the knees.
Still not convinced? Check out our review from last year’s show in Sydney and remember, there aren’t many bands that can lead a 5000-strong chant about drowning yourself in a cornucopia of narcotics, during a heavy, hedonistic summer. You could be part of that party.
