Thanks in no short part to some cryptic unearthings, a tour date leak and one particularly notable Reddit conspiracy sparked by a rogue insider/aquarium worker, the past week or so has been intense for Brand New fans. It was widely theorised that the Long Island emo staples would drop info on their long-awaited fifth album yesterday, and, as was expected from a rumour mill birthed on Reddit, that wasn't the case... Because it happened today instead.

Overnight – with no title, release date, artwork or, well, anything, really – Brand New announced the October release of LP5 on a "very limited" quantity of (arguably overpriced) vinyl. Don't get your hopes up on scoring a pre-order just yet, though: the first run of 5,000 copies managed to disappear almost instantly. Their webstore is also blacked out for the time being, so plans to constantly refresh until more copies go live might not be too wise.

Brand New's fifth album was initially stated to drop at the tail end of 2016 – the band spent much of that year teasing it (primarily with what is easily their best song in a decade, "I Am A Nightmare") before backtracking on their promise with an explanation that what they had in the bank wasn't up to their own artistic standards.

LP5 will be the quartet's first full-length offering since the 2009 release of Daisy. It'll also be their first released independently on the band's own Procrastinate! label.

The album news was was accompanied by a short run of US and UK tour dates. No word yet on whether we'll see them in Australia before their supposed 2018 break-up, but look, Destroy All Lines, Chugg, Frontier, Live Nation, UNIFY... If you're reading this... Please. Make it happen.
