3D sound to match the images
By Edgar Kramer | Monday, 20 December 2010 12:44The company has stated that it has won a Commercialisation Australia grant approved by Kim Carr Minister for Innovation, Industry, Science and Research based on a ‘Proof of Concept’. NewAudio has plans to include and licence Acoustic3D in all manner of audio products where it can be used for the creation of a virtual room within defined acoustic boundaries. Acoustic3D is claimed to be ideal for commercial applications, such as in public address and conference systems, where it should provide realistic sonic images with extraordinary speech intelligibility and microphone feedback rejection.
The technology is already being used in a new range of consumer home speakers from Solphonique Audio. The unique-looking SD speaker from Solphonique uses the fractal diffuser, among other technologies, to create the ‘3D’ sound of the Acoustic3D technology. The SD is a standmount speaker with a 6.5-inch mid/bass driver and a 1-inch tweeter which down-fires into the fractal dispersion lens. The SD is also available as an active monitor (as the SDA) with USB input for access to DSP filtering technology. A subwoofer of equally unusual design and available in a variety of colours can be mated to the SD and SDA speakers.
NewAudio is hoping for a prompt international take-up of the Acoustic3D technology within commercial audio while Solphonique is planning to expand on its consumer loudspeaker product range.
