The Magico Q1 is a two-way stand-mount design housed in a fully-braced, fully-damped, fully-sealed aluminium and copper, hard-anodised enclosure and sports a complete new set of drivers comprising a 177mm ‘Nano-Tec’ bass/midrange driver and a 25mm Beryllium dome tweeter. ‘We are one of the first in the world to have the Q1 on demo,’ said Boris Granovsky, of Absolute Hi End, which distributes Magico in Australia. ‘The new woofer has resulted in improved system efficiency, an additional 7Hz of bass extension and greater power handling than the Magico Mini II, and this allows the Q1 to be satisfactorily powered by high-quality amplifiers with power outputs as low as 50-watts per channel.’

Irv Gross, of Magico, told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine that the development of the Q1 was more than just an exercise in acoustic engineering. ‘Replacing an iconic and revolutionary product is as much an exercise in understanding human emotion as it is in engineering,’ he said. ‘For any new generation of products, in addition to being compared to its predecessor by actual performance, there is a need to contend with the intense feelings of witnessing the introduction of a loudspeaker so far ahead of its time that it redefines a genre. Today, the Mini II stands within the high-end as a classic, but in the new Q1, compromises of form factor, mass, power requirements, and versatility were not necessary due to eliminating inefficiencies in common problem solving design principles. The outcome is a compact, convertible stand-mount/bookshelf loudspeaker with explosive, true full-range performance. It is the two-way monitor that has never before been built, by our company or any other,’ he said. In Australia, the Magico Q1s sell for $32,000 per pair.
