Don't miss Rodrigo y Gabriela live at the Sydney Opera HouseWednesday, 25 March 2015 15:02
Having conquered the world with over a million albums sold, scores for Hollywood blockbusters and a collaboration with the 13-piece C.U.B.A orchestra, Mexico's metal-loving acoustic guitar maestros strip back to their roots as they face off alone on the Concert Hall stage – armed only with four hands, twelve strings, and the furious riffs of their new album 9 Dead Alive.
From their discovery busking on the streets of Dublin by Damien Rice to performing at The White House for President Barrack Obama, Rodrigo y Gabriela have transcended cultural barriers through pure instrumental dexterity. Combining Rodrigo's prodigal speed-riddled solos with Gabriela's Latin-infused slap-rhythms, their genre-bending covers including Led Zeppelin, Metallica and Radiohead have constantly surprised as the duo infuse joyous flamenco traditions with head-banging furore. Drawing on their 25-year journey together and their defining influences for fourth album 9 Dead Alive, the duo have created the definitive document of their live prowess, reaching 'to record as if we were playing a live gig in your living room'
A year on from their sold out Sydney Opera House debut, Rodrigo y Gabriela will wrap audiences around their best-known songs, surprise covers and their improvised odysseys in a heated dance-off between Spanish-style beauty and classic rock 'n' roll heroics.
