Since their inception in 1989, the annual Sound & Image Awards have recognised excellence in the design, manufacture and installation of home entertainment equipment.
The Award-winners are celebrated in a special edition of Sound & Image magazine, and at the annual black-tie Awards night dinner that has become a essential event in the industry’s calendar.
The Awards cover the key areas of home entertainment:
• TVs and displays;
• sources (CD and DVD players, digital set-top TV receivers, digital video recorders);
• amplifiers and receivers; and
• loudspeakers.
Products are evaluated on the basis of the following criteria:
• sound and/or image reproduction;
• value for money;
• features;
• build quality;
• appearance;
• ease of use and ergonomics.
Special Awards are presented for Judges’ Choice, Most Innovative Product and Best Installation, this last Award selected from the installers whose home theatre and
whole-house integration installations have appeared as pictorials in the preceding
year’s issues of Sound & Image.
The Awards also include key In-car Entertainment categories, judged by Sound & Image together with its sister publication Australian InCar Entertainment.
In each product category an Award is made for Product of the Year, together with a small number of Highly Commended Awards for those products most highly rated by the judges.
Many manufacturers/distributors whose products win categories or receive commendations widely promote their success using Awards logos in print advertising and online, and by supplying retailers with swing-tags to hang on in-store product displays.
NOTE: The 2010 awards were announced on 28 Oct 2009.
