Austria’s Ayon Audio has released a new vacuum tube-based CD player, the CD-07.

At a time when some manufacturers are announcing they’ll no longer build CD players (Linn, see story here), Austrian high-end audio manufacturer Ayon Audio has been very busy adding to and extending its range of CD players. After starting with the CD-2 and then following up early last year with the lower-cost CD-1s, it then also introduced its CD-5 Reference CD Player in August 2009, along with the Skylla reference DAC. Now Ayon Audio has released the CD-07, which uses a pair of 5687 triodes. It also heralds a change in industrial design, according to Absolute Hi End, which distributes Ayon Audio in Australia. ‘The Ayon CD-07 is a dramatic rethinking of conventional based tube CD Player industrial designs and represents an absolutely new standard in its price category,’ says Boris Granovsky, of Absolute Hi End. ‘It was created to embody in a more affordable CD-Player all the know-how and expertise Ayon’s engineers acquired developing reference products. This CD-Player now incorporates many advanced technologies aspects and superior aesthetic from Ayon's upper CD-Player line. The CD-07 provides exquisite musicality with transparency, dynamic, air, harmonics and resolution.’

The two 5687 triodes are in the output stage, to provide a true Class-A analog output, switchable between balanced and single-ended, and the circuit includes a warm-up function to extend the life of the valves. The design also uses two 24-bit/192kHz upsampling DACs. The CD-07 measures 460×320×110mm (WDH) and weighs 10kg.
