In the 21st century, a company’s web presence is absolutely essential. If you don’t appear in both the virtual and actual parallel universes – local market aside – well, you can almost say you don’t exist. Ergo, the Australian high-end audio specialist SGR Audio's new website.
SGR Audio has launched a website featuring a host of actual and planned products that span the full gamut of high-end electronics, from source to speakers. Company principals Harry and Stuart Ralston are the team behind the engineering and design of these Australian-manufactured products.
Of particular note are the impressive SGR Audio MT Series speakers, which will no doubt be compared to the WATT/Puppy, which they resemble. The MT3F tops the MT range and comprises an upper sealed pyramidal enclosure housing a Scanspeak Revelator tweeter and SGR paper cone midrange. The lower sealed enclosure – again pyramid-shaped – houses twin 254mm SGR-designed paper cone drivers that according to Harry Ralston: 'have gone through numerous iterations during many years of exhaustive research and development and have been assessed against literally hundreds of branded drivers.' The MT3F is an active speaker – as are most of SGRs designs. Electronics are provided via the visually-striking Elite series of amplifiers (also available as stand-alone products). The MT3F is priced at AUD$46,500.
The Illuminator Series includes a flagship speaker that is likely to be compared to Rockport’s Arrakis or to Duntech's Sovereign. The massive tower has an array of SGR-developed drivers and technologies. Still in development they should be available for $68,500.
Finally, the Convex Series presents attractively-designed speakers with many of the technologies used on the higher-end models but at lower price points. Again, the Convex speakers feature active designs, non-parallel surfaces, and high quality components. The series includes a centre-channel and a matching subwoofer.
