One of the world’s best speakers has just got better. Bowers & Wilkins – more affectionately known as B&W – has launched a revamped version of the flagship 800 Series speakers.
The new Diamond 800 Series now include the famous B&W tweeter throughout the whole range, even down to the small stand-mount 805. The new speakers look almost the same as the previous models (with some cosmetic refinements like a chrome metal dress ring around the drivers) but now come in a gorgeous new piano gloss black apart from the old rosenut and cherry finishes.
The new speakers sport some redesigns in the tweeters, crossovers, bass drivers and midrange phase plug. Even the terminals have been replaced by new higher quality units. B&W’s Dave Baker explained that “the new Diamond Series are more refined and much more dynamic speakers than the ones they replace. They are also easier to drive as they are slightly more efficient and present an easier load to all amplifiers”.
We must say that the new speakers truly look impressive in their new piano colour and with the subtle but worthwhile cosmetic improvements. However, regarding the sound we’re afraid we can’t comment as the gorgeous speakers were in static display.
Also on display were the company’s new range of high quality headphones and a host of Zeppelin iPod/iPhone docks – some in gorgeous chrome finishes.
